JONES, David Christmas Card to the De La Mares

Single folded sheet, folded horizontally and vertically to produce a large-format card measuring 19.5 x 25cm, the front image printed in colour showing an angel playing a violin; the rear image with typographic lettering printed in black, internally, with the recipient’s names written in blue ink; aside from a little creasing an excellent ephemeral survival. 

An original printed Christmas card from the early 1960s. Jones’ design utilises text taken from the Scottish Poet William Dunbar’s poem ‘On the Nativitie of Christ’. This copy is hand signed by Richard and Catherine de la Mare. 

Richard de la Mare, son of the poet Walter de la Mare, joined Faber in 1925, and became principal Director in 1928. By the time of this Christmas card he was Chairman of the company. He married Catherine in 1930.
