[FAIRIES] A Handwritten and Drawn Poem
Single sheet of Reynolds super fine art card (19 x 22.5cm); with an original, and highly intricate pen and ink illustration and poem to the recto; three verses enclosed within floral device borders, and five fairies; two on lily pads, another watching on, and the King and Queen, seemingly, atop the highest leaf; a little browned and creased to edges, with a couple of small dark marks; the paper mark embossed to the upper right-hand corner; a very good example of an ephemeral item.
A charming manuscript poem and accompanying drawing on the subject of fairies. The verses read:
The moonbeams rested on tree and flow’r
And tipt yon turret grey:
It beamed on the leaves of a Fairy Bow’r
And stream’d o’er a Meadow gay.
The Lake lay calm and silent then:
The Brook, as it stole along,
Seem’d half afraid, in the Forest glen,
Of its gentle murmuring song.
‘Twas a time when Fairies love to keep
Their revels gay, while Mortals sleep,
O’er the dewy grass they flit along
And sweetly breathe their cheerful song:
Then hovering round each flower that grows,
They seek awhile a short repose.
Seemingly unpublished.
