8vo., publisher’s ribbed burgundy cloth, titled in gilt to upper cover and lettered/decorated in gilt to backstrip; decorative endpapers; upper edge gilt; pp. [iii], vi-vii, [ii], 2-468, [4, ads.]; spine bubbled, a few marks to boards; internally evenly toned, some chipping to the endpapers and text block a little splayed; a very good example.

New edition.

One of Bronte’s most popular and enduring works, Jane Eyre was first published in 1847, and follows the eponymous protagonist as she navigates her difficult upbringing, her work and consequent conflicting romantic relationship with Mr Rochester, and the secret that plagues them all. It is still considered today to be one of the best-loved novels in the English language, and is certainly one of this bookseller’s favourite books of all time.

A very nice late 19th century edition of this popular work, retaining both the publisher’s binding and Bronte’s pseudonym to the title page.
