A collection of publications which bring together the three previously-published themes concerning the story of ‘The Gnome King’, along with an original, handwritten holograph manuscript of the first chapter of van Sandwyk’s first ever novel. Comprising: 

  1. The Gnome King’s Treasure Song

12mo., stitched red card covers, with forest green dustwrapper lettered and decorated in metallic bronze; featuring an onlaid label of the Gnome King with his harp, sitting astride a wooden chest; unpaginated [pp. Xvi]; fully decorated, illustrated, and printed with typographic text throughout; including a highly decorative centrefold image; some outer edges untrimmed; fine. 

Original first edition, signed by the author to the title page.

  1. Five original handcoloured artist proof copperplate etchings with characters from the above publication.

8vos., 5 vols; green and gold card wraps with onlaid labels handwritten by the artist; containing five characters, each appearing in the original story of the Gnome King, soft mounted to each corner.

8vo., sparkling black wraps with integrated marbled dustwrapper; onlaid illustrated label to upper cover; [unpaginated]; with two folding plates showing the story synopsis of the Gnome King, as well as a map of the realm; two full page illustrations in full colour; one of the gnome king and another showing a shocked-looking fairy; along with numerous other embellishments throughout; a pocket to the inside of the rear cover containing a folding booklet showing the hob-goblin who lives in the clock which, when held to the light, shows the silhouette inside the paper; fine. 

First edition of this little booklet outlining the story and some of the characters in the upcoming publication of Charles van Sandwyk’s Gnome King. Printed in a very small run of just 30 copies, for use as a sample. This copy signed by the author to p.[i].

8vo., black and green sparkly card wraps with onlaid handwritten label to the upper cover; loosely containing additional blue and tan card covers, and pp. [xii] pages of text and illustrations in full colour, as well as five pockets containing folded letters and an additional pocket at the rear containing a concertina with a ‘collection of little people common to the Natural Forest’’; fine. 

The first true private edition, signed by the author/illustrator to the title page. This publication proved to be the springboard for the later, extended Folio Society edition, and was originally produced exclusively for members of the High Branch society. A picture of the gnome king appears on p. [viii] and [xi], where the artist tells the story of his travels to fairyland in order to paint the gnome king for his 350th birthday. The green card covers have here been specially produced to fit the rest of this collection.
