An original pen, ink, and watercolour illustration (9.5 x 12.5cm) showing the artist, who has here depicted himself as a bespectacled dormouse in striped shirt, trousers and braces, holding a paintbrush and palette, painting a canvas showing trees and clouds; against a yellow wash background, outlined in red; contained within a cream mount (30.5 x 22.5) itself outlined in blue, gold and red; fine.

A beautiful self-portrait image of Van Sandwyk, painted especially for Fold the Corner in May 2026. Signed by the artist to the lower right hand corner. The painting of poplar trees is a real one, which Charles painted when he was 19 and is now housed in his own collection. A similar image can be found in his earlier publication ‘The meaning of mice’.
